Special interests and current research:

Specialty: the history of medieval and early modern science, especially physical science and the relationship between science and religion. Currently editing (jointly with Ronald Numbers) the 8-volume Cambridge History of Science. Editorial board member of the Oxford Dictionary of the Middle Ages, responsible for science entries.
