Paper Prizes for Graduate Students
Introduction
Prizes for the best graduate student paper are offered annualy by the major professional societies in the history of science, medicine and technology. Graduate students in the department should seriously consider applying for one of these prizes at some point in their careers. Winning one of these prizes is a significant honor and a nice addition to one's vita. The prizes also include significant cash awards. The level of competition varies tremendously from year to year; in fact, some years the prizes aren't offered at all because no acceptable papers are received.
What and When to Submit
Generally, submissions for these prizes are based on a revised research paper from a seminar, a revision of the MA paper, or a chapter from the student's dissertation. It typically does not take a great amount of work to prepare a submission, especially since you will be selecting your best work. Students should check with their advisors before submitting a paper.
